Janice Rahn ~ [21st century] Canadian
Janice Rahn's interest in gardening and art history, is evident in her recent series of organic female arbor structures, in carved porcelain sculptures, plasma cut steel, bamboo and willow, charcoal/ink drawings, and mono prints. She also makes documentary videos and audio/video installations in collaboration with Michael Campbell, most recently shown at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Kulteren der Welt Berlin, and the Venice Biennale. Composition in the Shape of a Pod is a reference to Erik Satie who entitled his piano composition In the Shape of a Pear as a response to critics who said his music lacked form. For three years, Rahn improvised on the form of a dedicated poppy pod, conflating references to art history, fashion, and gardening.
