Biographical Information
Shanell Papp ~ [21st century] Canadian
see artist's website shanellpapp.com
Shanell Papp maintains an intensive art practice, working in textiles, sculpture, photography/film, drawing, and AI. Her work draws together conceptions of textiles, labour, healing and the grotesque. Papp has many "soft skills", interpersonal and practical skills in textiles. This mental and visual softness can soothe and/or provide comical catharsis. The work is very comfortable being uncomfortable, not unlike an itchy/cozy wool sweater. Papp’s work has a large following online. The work has defined new thought and directions in textile craft, art, and online art. Papp holds a BFA and MFA in art, currently pursuing an MLIS to improve her understanding of information systems, textiles, online worlds, programming languages, and AI.
