When it comes to art, we’re here to help.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, LEVIS Fine Art Auctions and Appraisals was established in 1992 by its principal Doug Levis. As an art auction house we are multi-faceted. We typically hold two live auctions a year, multiple online auctions and occasionally host specialized auctions for estates, corporations and galleries. We also offer art storage, appraisals, consultations and various other art services. Levis Auctions operates with an emphasis on honest and authentic relationships with both clients and colleagues. Our friendly and professional approach is partnered with knowledgeable and scholarly expertise. We have sold over 40,000 pieces since our inception and continue to be a contributing factor to arts and culture in Calgary and Alberta.
As a company we value community involvement and regularly donate our time and services through benefit auctions with charities such as the Jack Long Foundation, Stride Gallery [Calgary], Two Rivers Gallery [Prince George], Trout Unlimited, Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre and the University of Calgary Art Department. We also donate our appraisal services for art galleries and foundations all over Western Canada.
Doug Levis is the founder and previous co-owner of Levis Fine Art Auctions.
Doug Levis founded Levis Fine Art Auctions in 1992 after being heavily involved in the art industry since the early 1970's. After all that time, Doug deserves a rest and will be entering semi-retirement in July 2021 - maybe he will finally figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. He leaves the company in the capable hands of Cheryl, Andrea, George and Kyle who will serve its clients well.
Doug first attended the University of Calgary before graduating with his BA in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria. Returning to Calgary, Doug managed Kensington Fine Art Gallery for five years before moving on to consultation work and focusing on the development of a digital database for the fine art industry. During this time, Doug began Artbank Incorporated which served as the parent company for Levis Fine Art Auctions until 2015.
Cheryl Sonley joined Levis Art Auctions in 2008 and became co-owner of Levis Fine Art Auctions & Appraisals in 2015. Cheryl is a Medicine Hat native and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts. She lived in Victoria, B.C. for a few years until returning home to Alberta in 2006.
In 2013 Cheryl became an accredited appraiser with the Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group and is a former member of the International Society of Appraisers [ISA] having completed the core appraisal course with a specialization in Canadian Fine Art in the same year. Cheryl's dog George was a valuable full-time employee for 11 years and passed away peacefully in 2021.
Andrea Lowe joined Levis Art Auctions in 2015 after moving back to Calgary from the United Kingdom. She became a co-owner in 2018 and a partner in 2020. She has always loved art and helping people.
Andrea completed a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary and has work experience in fashion and human services. In 2020, she completed her Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group accreditation and became a member in good-standing. You will find Andrea's dog Kyle at the office most days sleeping behind her desk or chewing on a bone.
