according to the artist 'I joined and photographed Charlie Russell in 1992 to learn about his relationsip with the white [recessive gene of black bears] on Princess Royal Island off the B.C. coast. These were early years of his quest to forge a new relationship of mutual trust with bears. Two years later I joined him in Kamchatka, Russia on a 9 year study of grizzly bears.'
