Biographical Information
Henri-Alexis Schaeffer ~ [1900-1975] French
Schaeffer was a student at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He studied under professor Fernand Cormon who went on to establish his own atelier in Montmarte in 1883 that welcomed painters such as van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec. Schaeffer was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1934 onwards. His early works were generally religious or architectural but he went on to paint atmospheric scenes of Paris.
