according to the artist 'I joined and photographed Charlie Russell in 1992 to learn about his relationsip with the white [recessive gene of black bears] on Princess Royal Island off the B.C. coast. These were early years of his quest to forge a new relationship of mutual trust with bears. Two years later I joined him in Kamchatka, Russia on a 9 year study of grizzly bears.'

We originally sold this work in 2019 as a Keith Haring. At that time, we believed this work was done by Haring as it was consigned by a reputable dealer/gallery. Since then, the dealer has retired and the gallery has closed. When the purchaser wanted to re-offer this work, we reached out the dealer for additional provenance but they no longer had records from the gallery. According to The Keith Haring Foundation, they no longer do authentications and you can read their statement here: haring.com/authentication. Given the above information, we felt more comfortable selling this work as 'Attributed to Keith Haring'.
